The Kingdom of Possibilities

“How Fascinating!!”. This is how Benjamen Zander chooses to celebrate failure, stretching up his arms and screaming the two words in relieving satisfaction. His theory: no one grows out of perfection, everyone needs to make mistakes to learn, and this is why mistakes should be tolerated. Translating this philosophy into education systems, Zander invites educators to start using a new vocabulary based on “tolerance”, “what if”, “possibility”, rather than “must”, “need” and “ought. Taking our thinking pattern from the traditional downward spiral toward a much broader scope of action and reflection would enlighten more minds and foster creativity. Now the whole question is whether or not we get this concept correctly and apply it appropriately to the education system.

Take away:
1- Everything is invented: I love that one! Do not take everything for granted, there are flaws everywhere
2- Stay in possibilities: to enlighten more minds, to be happier
3- Remember Rule #6: “Don’t take yourself so damn seriously” to be more considerate for and receptive of others’ perceptions.

How fascinating! Yeah I like it. Maybe you forget the link in the body of the post (you said Enjoy the Show! without giving the reference) : http://www.teachers.tv/video/5086

And with your permission, I'll give my opinion here: what Benjamin said about the possibility and called it the theory of education is simply there in our holly book of Quran and in Islam. You know that our works in Islam are assessed not according to what we actually do BUT according to our intention to do so (this somehow answers one of your past posts 'L’industrie lourde de notre nation').

One of the most important five Hadiths (some kind of sunna foundation), according to many scholars, is the one where the Messenger (saws) said: 'انما الأعمال بالنيات' ... If we honestly WANT to DO some (good) thing we get immediatly an A. Totally different language.

I'm more than optimistic about our future, things get more clear thanks to ALLAH.

Ooops- Thanks for your post Khalid, and sorry for this late response, I haven't been updating recently, I thought nobody was interested in reading my blog actually :-) well thanks for your frequent visits :)

Will be more than happy to help, although I am sure you don't need my help.. hopefully my contribution will be helpful-

btw: very insightful comment on "الأعمال بالنيات", that is very true...

Regarding my frequent visits, please take them as a support. You've a great idea (regarding the education) which I do share with you and as you started to blog it, I only must support you. Hope that's not issue.

Sure you can help! I need help of any (good) spirit. We all need help.

If we just (try) to tell people what they're doing on this earth and tell them we may know the purpose of life, God will help us. Because we know it.

btw, while preparing a certification and reading a book I found some VERY GOOD thoughts on how to learn! but the book (pdf) is about 40Mo and I don't know how to just cut first pages ... they talk about them here: http://www.wickedlysmart.com/

have a nice day,

First of all, I confirm what Khalid and Anonymous have said about the content of your blog. Over the Education issue itself, I appreciate your good will.
From my point of view, it seems to me that we can not allow ourselves to remain at schools for a lifetime. Since our lives are to be consecrated to very much more matters, I apply to any system based on the following credo "teaching kids how to learn by themselves".

Thanks guys for your support.
Yugurta: I agree, we have to teach them how to learn. The thing is that we are not aware yet that this is the way to go, which makes it even more complicated.. but anyhow, you're right, we don't spend a lifetime at school and every single place is a school: work, community, the train station, ... now the question I guess is what's the best way to teach all these aspects at all these places?... broad broad..but thanks for bringing it up-
